When I started reading I just wanted to be there with them and experience their life even though the problems they had were crazy. It was still beautiful.
Ca 3/4th of the book was when I realized this was gonna be darker and sadder than I initially thought. It was when Oliver realized that they were falling apart, that the book got so ugly and inevitably sad, I couldn’t comprehend it. But it didn’t allow you to stop reading, the book put you through the pain without letting go.
I don’t like this book at all, for all the pain it’s put me through, but I love it impetuously.
What’s crazy is that in the beginning, at least to me, they were living an ideal live. Sure they had their problems but it wasn’t anything they couldn’t get through either together or on their own. And most importantly they were doing what they loved, what they were passionate about. It never occurred to me that this could ever be one’s downfall. But when Oliver used Shakespeare, his passion, to explain everything that happened as much that he blamed him for it, I realized that that was what had brought them down. They had been maybe to passionate.
While reading the book I felt in a way what Oliver felt. It’s what he always described, when playing the characters you don’t act as them, you become them and then act as yourself. It’s not like I was playing his part, but I did in a way become him. All the things he felt, I felt. That’s what made the book so special and especially heart-breaking.
