Mit »The Talented Mr. Ripley« (1955) hat Patricia Highsmith dem Kriminalroman neue Dimensionen erschlossen. Nicht der Detektiv steht im Mittelpunkt, sondern der zweifache Mörder, aus dessen Sicht die Geschichte erzählt wird – und der danach noch in vier weiteren Romanen auftritt.
Das Buch ist gleich zweimal verfilmt worden: 1959 von René Clément (mit Alain Delon) und 1999 von Anthony Minghella (mit Matt Damon).

A very interesting story about Tom Ripley and his travels with another identity.

Part 1

cover: This cover is really dark and therefore matching with the genre. It also fits to an elderly story. Also the man on the picture is matching because it could be Mr Ripley who is not really identificable. I wasn't catched from the cover but from the title I already heard about.

content: The story is about Tom Ripley who has not a lot of money and knows meets Dickie from the past. Then he meets him again and he likes more and more the life Dickie has. Therefore he is ready to do a lot to be like him.

opinion: Tom is not a very sympathetic character and I couldn't identify me with him here, but I was very interested in accompanying him. The narrative style of this story is entertaining, also because it seems there that everything has to be like that and not including a lot of thoughts or feelings. The story was completely interesting and entertaining and therefore I can recommend it.
