„Mischief isn´t something you think up. It just happens” Astrid Lindgren.
“Good night stories for rebel girls” is a cooperative work of the two Authors Elena Favilli and Francesca Cavallo. Furthermore, both are the founders of the “Timbuktu labs”, a lab that creates toys for kids. That book is supposed to read to kids.
“To the rebel girls in the world: dream bigger, aim higher, fight harder. And, when in doubt, remember: you are right.”
The book includes 100 stories about well-known but also unknown women in the world. Just to name a few: Ada Lovelace, Astrid Lindgren, Hypatia, Malala and Rosa Parks. Each story is supported by an illustration of one out of 60 female artists from all over the world. That illustrations vary between a photography-like image or just a caricature of the presented rebel girl. Which you like most will depend on your own taste.
I do really like the haptic of the cover. It touched like velvet when you stroke it. Inside it starts with the text “That book belongs to: …” That remembered me to the books in my Childhood and gives it a personal touch.
The following pages narrate stories about different rebel girls from the beginning of our time reckoning. Some are easygoing, some are sad, but all were quite impressive to me. The stories are not filled with too much data about the personalities, and for some readers this might be too less informative. But in my opinion, it´s a good start for kids to learn about famous women and what they achieved. I don´t think that a very detailed story will be the right before to go to bed. For all who are interested in more, they are free to go to a book store or library to find out more about the one or another rebel girl.
At the end of the books are two nearly empty pages where the kids can write and draw down their own story and picture. I liked that possibility, regardless of whether it will be used or not.
All in all “Good night stories for rebel girls” is a lovely books for kids in elementary school age, who are interested in what can be possible if you just believe in your dreams.
